History: Shelley Harding-Smith is recognized as Canada’s first Black female master electrician, running Harding-Smith Electric in Ontario after taking over her family business, according to CBC and Electrical Industry News Week. Other notable pioneers include Sheryl Maisonville, the first woman certified as an electrician in Ontario in 1979, and Elsie MacGill, the first woman to earn an electrical engineering degree in Canada in 1927.
