A little history- Prominent female boat builders and shipwrights in Canada include Dawn Johnston, a specialized commercial shipwright based on Gabriola Island, and historical figures like the women of the Beinn Bhreagh Boatyard in Nova Scotia (c. 1918). During WWII, thousands of women, including a Mi’kmaw woman named Mrs. Martin, worked at the Pictou shipyard.
