“Buckskin Mary”

Recognizing Marie Rose (Delorme) Smith (1861-1960), also know as Buckskin Mary: A Métis rancher, homesteader, and midwife & medicine women who, despite facing immense hardship, raised 17 children and ran a successful ranch near Pincher Creek, Alberta. She also managed a small home business where she made traditional indigenous clothing and items. She was contracted to make goods for the Hudson’s Bay Company and to sew tents for the Canadian Pacific Railway. She was named a persons of national historic significance in 2022.

Designed with a good friend in mind “The Sheep Lady” in Sundre Alberta. A prime example of what a rancher is…raising sheep and cows, kids in 4H and a husband who pulls draft horses at the Calgary Stampede.
