Actually, dories are seafaring wooden vessels, designed with a flat bottom and, long overhanging bow which help them lift over heavy waves. It was not uncommon for dorymen to row a mile or more, after their lines had been hauled, back to their schooners. Today some of these boats are used for competition. This is not just a men’s sport but you guessed it, also woman. Some of these races have been going on for over 70 years between Gloucester, Massachusetts, and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
